Nature Art: Through the macro lens

$49.00

Classroom is open!

When you register, you will receive an automated confirmation and then I’ll be back in touch within 48 hours with your classroom access information.

Join me to explore tiny worlds through the macro lens and create beautiful pieces of art using pen, ink and watercolor paint.

We will observe natural found objects though the macro lens of our camera or iphone/ipad (and magnifying glass) and be inspired by photographs focusing mostly on sea life, flowers, leaves, cells and more! This class also includes a HUGE library of downloadable macro and microscopic images.

Each piece of art will be unique, some abstract, some full of natural patterns and many will form beautiful mandala designs that are also found in nature.

There is so much beauty in these tiny worlds and you will leave this class with endless inspiration and look at the natural world with a new eye for details. You will find yourself seeking out more tiny worlds that are around you everyday.

Materials List

Here are some of the materials we will be using in class:

  • Camera with a macro lens (you may already have one with a DSLR camera). I have this which can click onto iphone, ipod, ipad etc
  • Black outlining pen (I like Faber Castell Artists Pitt Pens)
  • Watercolor paper. I will be using a variety from 140 g/m up to 300 g/m smooth and textured. I use Canson XL Watercolor Pads – view here and Gummed watercolour pad from Cass Art – view here (optional). I will be cutting the paper up into small pieces around 7 inches square so you can use whichever size suits you.
  • Watercolor paints, I use Windsor & Newton professional, but cotman and any other watercolor paints will do just fine. :-) You can use pencils or colored pens if you prefer also.
  • Paintbrushes, water jar, paper towels
  • Color printer (if you will be printing out photos)
  • Dipping ink (i like the Windsor & Newton black indian ink)
  • Dip pen (if you have one or are able to purchase one – this is optional)
