mandala for the inspired artist

I can’t quite believe it, but the Mandala book I co-authored is about to hit the book stores (3 weeks today, to be precise!) Woohoo!

I have to admit, I have been thinking about writing and publishing my own Mixed Media Mandala book, since I started offering mandala art courses two years ago, but something was holding me back.

I remember thinking that if I shared all my mandala making processes and art techniques in a book, no-one would sign up to my classes! How silly is that? At the time it was a very real limiting belief that I had, believe me!

How far I feel I have come since then.

Mandala for the Inspired Artist: Working with paint, paper, and texture to create expressive mandala art
One of my favorite mandalas I show you how to create in the book
All I can remember is that the idea kept nudging at me over and over and for some reason I ignored it.  No, lets re-frame that – I was practicing the ‘Art of Forgetting’ which the lovely Andrea Scher of Superhero Life says is what solidifies our dream into manifestation and tells the universe we are ready to receive.
I am a strong believer in manifesting and if something is meant to be, when you focus on it and believe in it, the universe conspires for your dream to become a reality. The universe confidently knows, it will all fall into place when it is the right time.

Then it gives us ‘the sign’.

The sign came on the evening of March 31st, 2015. After dinner, I was sitting on my balcony with my friend, taking in the beauty of the night sky. It was warm enough to be outside that evening and the stars were so crisp and clear above. Sitting on the balcony at night looking at the sky is a regular occurrence at my house during the warmer months and is where some of the best conversations about life, the universe and everything have taken place. Lets call it “The balcony of contemplation”.

So, as we sat on ‘the balcony of contemplation” we were talking about books. The kind of book we would like to write, the kind of book we want to bring into the world. It was at this moment, I spoke about the mandala book idea I had and that I felt I had ‘let it go’. “Not at all” my friend replied. “You can still write it and bring it into the world”. I thought about it for a moment and simply said ‘YES!”

So, you can imagine how my jaw dropped (when I came inside to check my email) to receive an invitation from the senior editor at Walter Foster Publishing to be the key author in a new book all about mandalas!

Thank you Universe!

I am so happy to be a co-author of this beautiful book and wanted to share this story simply because, if you are holding back on something or practicing the ‘art of forgetting’.  I wanted to assure you, that when the time is right, the universe will show you the way.

As Liz Gilbert writes on page 49 of her book “Big Magic” {I just started reading this}

“Trust in the miraculous truth that new and marvelous ideas are looking for human collaborators every single day. Ideas of every kind are constantly galloping towards us, constantly passing through us, constantly trying to get our attention. Let them know you’re available.”

So if you have a dream you would like to bring to fruition, here are some resources from me to help you get started:

Create a visionboard for your idea or dream.
– Print my “discover your passion” worksheet to help you focus on your direction
– Download this audio about sharing your gifts.
– Listen to the universe (I share how I do this in these audio interviews)
